Coldplay's "Music of the Spheres Tour" makes history by becoming the first rock tour—and only the second tour of all—to gross more than $1 billion this surprise is Coldplay behind Taylor Swift's record-breaking "The Eras Tour." It just keeps it going.
Continuing its world tour that began in 2022, it has attracted audiences around the world. After previously surpassing Elton John's record for the title of the most attended rock tour of all time, Coldplay have now set an unprecedented standard for the form Billboard confirmed they have accomplished by Boxscore data analyzed from July onwards.
July figures show Coldplay grossed a staggering $72.2 million from just 11 shows, selling 575,000 tickets in the process. The win marked Coldplay's fourth time dominating the box office charts and solidified its place in music history.
Since the start of the tour, about 9.3 million tickets have been sold as of August 25. With an average of 50,000 tickets sold per show, Billboard expects the Coldplay tour to surpass 10 million tickets sold for the year end, making them the first band in this milestone— although Taylor Swift is poised to achieve that with her ongoing tour, which is expected to gross $2 billion.
The "Music of the Spheres Tour" will conclude with final shows in Australia and New Zealand this October. During the tour, the band recently released "Moon Music," which marked their first new material since 2021's "Music of the Spheres."
