At just 26, Turkish archer Oznur Kyur Girdi has cemented her status as a para archer star with her outstanding performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympics Kyur Girdi set a new world record with more than 700 points in the compound women's ranking round in. Her impressive form carried over into the qualifying competitions and culminated in her first Paralympic gold medal.
In the thrilling final match, Cure Girdi won 144-141 against Fatemeh Hemmati of Iran. The two archers were tied after the first end, but Cure Girdy's accuracy enabled him to pull ahead throughout with nine 10. He carried a three-point lead into the final end and secured his collar trophy with ease and skill . . . .
“I was already convinced that I would win a medal after the qualifying tournament, and my world record,” Cure Girdi said. His happiness was palpable as he celebrated happily after the final shot, tears of joy streaming down his face. “I believed I would get it! And now it’s on my lap! I’m so excited. I worked really hard for this. It’s so beautiful!”
Despite the emotional celebration, Cure Girdy attributed his success to intense mental preparation. “We have a great team and we work a lot with our psychologist. During the preparation, we did a lot of exercises to help control my nerves. It helped me in the tournament,” he explained. “I felt the pressure when I was training, and then it was easier to handle when I was competing.”
The battle for the platform
The silver medal went to Fatemeh Hemmati of Iran, who had earlier defeated defending champion Phoebe Patterson Pine in the semifinals. Patterson Pine missed the podium after that
