Ryan Nemeth Tells His Pro Wrestling Origin Story

Unlike his elder sibling Nic, Ryan Nemeth didn't initially envision himself in the world of professional wrestling during his childhood. However, fate took an unexpected turn when he landed a one-year scholarship to train with Rip Rogers at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), followed by signing with WWE the subsequent year. Reflecting on his journey in a recent interview with "Developmentally Speaking," Nemeth reminisced about the early stages of his wrestling career and the events that shaped it.

"Wrestling has always held a special place in my heart. But as I grew up, I never saw it as a feasible path for myself. It seemed like this distant, unattainable dream," Nemeth recalled. "In the realm of entertainment, pursuing wrestling wasn't something that crossed my mind. My older brother Nic had his sights set on becoming a pro wrestler since the age of five. We all thought it was a peculiar and improbable ambition. Instead, I found my passion in acting, comedy, theater, and writing during my college years. I spent my summers in Chicago training with Second City and iO Chicago, honing my skills in improv and stage performance."

While Ryan Nemeth immersed himself in the world of improv and theater, his brother Nic (known to WWE fans as Dolph Ziggler) was carving his path in professional wrestling, particularly in WWE's developmental territory, OVW. Nemeth frequently attended Nic's matches, gradually developing an appreciation for the sport. Inspired by the adrenaline and spectacle of wrestling, Nemeth contemplated pursuing it himself. After completing his studies, Nemeth attempted to reach out to Ace Steel in Chicago for training.

Unfortunately, Nemeth's attempts to contact Steel were unsuccessful, as Steel's wrestling school had ceased operations. Undeterred, Nemeth redirected his efforts to OVW, where he later emerged victorious in their inaugural Breakout competition, earning the scholarship that kickstarted his wrestling journey.
