PGA TOUR winner Grayson Murray passes away | Remembering Grayson Murray: A Golfing Talent Taken Too Soon

PGA TOUR winner Grayson Murray passes away at 30

Tragically, Grayson Murray, who won his second PGA TOUR title at the Sony Open in Hawaii this year, died on Saturday.

"We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning," said PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan, expressing extreme sympathy. I don't know what to say. The PGA TOUR is a family, and you are never the same after losing a family member. We pray for Grayson's loved ones' comfort as we grieve him."

Monahan continued, saying that Grayson would have preferred it if Murray's parents had continued to voice a want for tournament play to go on. At PGA TOUR and Korn Ferry Tour tournaments, grief counselors were there to provide support.

Murray, 30, had an incredible golfing career beginning when he was just 16 years old, winning three Callaway Junior World Championships in a row and earning his first cut on the Korn Ferry Tour. Despite obstacles, he made his breakthrough in 2016 when he won the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship, giving him full status on the PGA TOUR for the 2016–17 season.

Murray struggled after winning the Barbasol Championship in 2017, but he bounced back in 2023 with two wins on the Korn Ferry Tour, earning a spot back on the PGA TOUR. After a great start to the 2024 season, he rose to a career-high 46th in the Official World Golf Ranking and won the Sony Open playoffs. Although Grayson Murray's sudden death has left a vacuum in the golf world, people will always cherish his brilliance and fortitude.
